Peer Support and Exercise Study
Purpose of study
The University of Queensland’s School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences is conducting a research project to investigate whether peer support can assist with exercise maintenance and health, after a short-term exercise program.

?What does it involve
  1. 0
    Training Phase
Includes 4 weeks of supervised exercise training (by an Accredited Exercise Physiologist) on a specialised stationary bike (3 times per week) at The University of Queensland, St Lucia.
  2. 2
    Maintenance Phase
You will be encouraged to continue exercise for 12 months following the initial training phase. Depending on your randomisation, you may or may not receive additional peer support.
  3. 4
    Periodic Assessments
Assessments will be performed at 5 time points throughout the study. These will involve a variety of cardiorespiratory fitness tests, metabolic and cardiovascular health checks and body composition analyses (including bone mineral density).
  4. 1
    Randomisation
To maintain high methodological rigour, this study is structured as a randomised controlled trial (RCT). This means that you will be randomly allocated to receive peer support or no peer support for the maintenance phase of the study.
